Meat-Free Mondays can be a great way for restaurants, cafés and canteens to encourage meat eaters to try veggie food, but it comes with a word of warning:
Do not remove all meat from the menu unless you know your customers are ready for it!
Many caterers have experienced a backlash after springing meat-free mondays on unsuspecting meat eaters.
Here are our tips for caterers who want to try Meat-Free Mondays without the backlash:
- Try putting your veggie options first on the menu, above the meat dishes.
- Every Monday, promote the idea of choosing a veggie option to your customers and encourage them to sign up to your Part-Time Carnivore pledge.
- Gradually increase the veggie options and cut down on the meat options. Only go completely meat-free if you’re not going to annoy anyone.
