1. Start with people you know
Think of 5 people you think will like the idea and get them signed up first so you’re not the only part-time carnivore in your team.
2. Share your team with your network
Share the link to your team pledge everywhere! On your website, on your blog, on Facebook, on Twitter, in e-newsletters and email it to all your contacts.
It is much easier to persuade people to sign up when you have their full attention. You need to get out and start some meaty conversations with people. Here are some example conversations.
4. Know your meat
It’s useful to have a few meaty facts up your sleeve. To see how much you know already try The Great Big Meaty Quiz.
Get some friends/colleagues together to help you get people signed up. Set yourselves a target – 20 pledges would be a good start – and plan how you will go about smashing that target. If you want your team to look the part, get some t-shirts.
A bit of friendly competition can be a great motivator. See where you are on the teams list and try to overtake the teams that are above you. You can also have teams within teams. For example, within a university, you could have a team for each department or each hall.
7. Use the sign-up sheet
The new part-time carnivore website works well on laptops, tablets and phones, but some people prefer to sign up the old fashioned way, pen on paper, so print out a sign-up sheet to carry around with you.
8. Turn up at events
Any event where you can have a stall or go around approaching people is an opportunity to recruit more part-time carnivores to your team. Simply going around a canteen at lunch time can be a great place to collect pledges.
9. Host your own events
You could have a “Come Veg With Me” dinner party, a shared lunch or put on a film screening. Some students at Bath University put on a free veggie BBQ, where people had to sign up in order to get a veggie burger. They got 100 pledges in a day!
10. Give everyone a badge
Everyone loves the Part-Time Carnivore badges, they are the perfect reward for signing up and increase the visibility of your campaign. You will get some badges in your members welcome pack and they will soon be available to buy in the shop too.
