Part-Time Carnivore is independent, nonprofit and run by volunteers. We work towards our mission by providing a platform for Part-Time Carnivore teams within local communities and organisations.
We aim to cut demand for intensively produced meat in order to:
- Advance public dietary health
- Promote better use of land and water to ensure there is enough food for all
- Minimise environmental degradation and reduce the impact of climate change
- Advance the welfare of people and animals in the food industry
How it works
Anyone can start their own Part-Time Carnivore team to encourage friends, family, colleagues, neighbours, staff or customers to eat less meat. You can start your own team for free and you’ll get access to a toolkit to help you get started.
If you are part of a larger organisation or community you can create teams-within-teams (e.g. departments within a university) as a way to get more people involved.
Our decentralised approach makes us very cost effective. Every penny we receive in donations and t-shirt sales is used to maintain and develop this website and our online resources so that Part-Time Carnivore teams have what they need to inspire change.
Pete is our designer and web developer. Pete is passionate about environmental issues but loves his meat, which led to the creation of Part-Time Carnivore back in 2010. Pete hopes to see Part-Time Carnivore becoming popular in the UK and all over the world. He believes that as well as reducing demand for unsustainable, unhealthy and unethical meat, we can influence policy through creating a massive movement. Pete enjoys wordplay and eats too much chocolate.
Carys does most of the research, fundraising and content writing for Part-Time Carnivore. She hopes Part-Time Carnivore will prompt people to learn more about how diet affects their health. In future she wants the Part-Time Carnivore website to be somewhere people can have fun learning about complicated issues related to meat consumption such as labelling and nutrition. Carys loves design, reading food & health blogs, travelling and singing along loudly to TV show intros.
Chompy is the face of Part-Time Carnivore. This toothy redhead represents our carnivorous side. He will always love meat, but has discovered an unexpected taste for veggie food too. Chompy can now be seen championing less and better meat in communities worldwide.
